Your CSU Personal Computer Responsibilities:
The person responsible for the CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE of your state-owned computer equipment here at CSU Northridge is YOU. There are several things that you can do to help cut down on the wear and tear on your computer so that it will always function cleanly and efficiently for you. Like any other piece of equipment, whether a fax machine, or a sewing machine, equipment collects dirt and dust if not cleaned regularly and properly. The following are REQUIRED HABITS TO ADOPT:

NO FOOD AND/OR DRINKS AT YOUR WORKSTATION
. Keep these on your desk at all times. Spilled coffee, water, etc. can make the keys on your keyboard stick and/or short-circuit your keyboard. If you have been eating or drinking at your workstation, and damage the keyboard...your Tech Support team will know the reason for the problem.

EXECUTE THE APPLICATION DISKKEEPER LITE on your computer at least ONCE-A-MONTH. This program ensures that the hard drive on your computer does not become so fragmented that applications start to crash or permanent damage is caused to your hard drive. If you do not know how to run the application for DKLITE, please see this URL:
http://www-admn.csun.edu/systech/techsupport/DKlite.htm.

DO NOT BRING FILES FROM YOUR HOME TO WORK VIA FLOPPY DISKETTE. In this current VIRUS-INFESTED COMPUTER ENVIRONMENT, this is a bad idea. Some users feel that it is safe to download internet files and/or free software from their home computer and then bring them into work to load on their computer here. Not so!. Many, many times, this is how virus' arrive on our network. Systems & Technology has a network "virus protect" program that runs on our network and reports to us every time a virus has been detected on someone's computer.
