What is R.A.D.?

A PHYSICAL DEFENSE PROGRAM FOR WOMEN THAT:

  • Has established standards of acceptability for female self-defense programs.
  • Offers no-nonsense, practical techniques of defense.
  • Has researched the effects of the "Fight or Flight Syndrome"
  • Offers advanced self-defense courses that build upon the Basic Physical Defense Systems
  • Provides static, fluid, and dynamic hands-on training.
  • Provides students with a comprehensive reference manual.
  • Certifies instructors from the community.
  • Offers "State of the Art" programs at reasonable rates.
  • Has a lifetime "Return and Practice" policy.

The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training.


Classes:

A semester length RAD course is offered to currently enrolled CSUN students during the fall and spring. Students can enroll for the 1-unit course via the MyNorthridge Portal. (KIN 153 for women, KIN 154 for men).

The Department of Police Services offers a 12 hour RAD course open to students, staff, faculty and community.

Do I need prior experience and/or be in top physical condition to participate?

No, the class is designed for all ages with no previous experience or background required.

How long is the R.A.D. program?

12 hours - 4 class sessions, 3 hours each class.

Class semester - 12 to 14 weeks (depending on the semester).

How many women have trained with the R.A.D. program?

Over 250,000 Nationwide

Where are the classes held and how often are they offered?

12 hour classes are held on campus from 5:30pm - 8:30pm at the Department of Police Services (Darby Ave./Prairie St).

12 hour classes are typically seheduled once every fall and spring.

I'm a mother of two daughters, can we all sign up and take the class?

YES! We highly encourage family and friends to take the RAD class togehter. It's a great experience and a great way for mothers and daughters to build a strong bond.
