A major disaster in our community can overload the capability of our first Responders in the first 12 to 72 hours. Having citizens -- faculty, staff, students and community neighbors -- who are better prepared to take care of themselves and others in times of crisis will allow emergency services to focus on the most critical, life threatening situations.
In 95% of all emergencies, the victim or bystander provides the first immediate assistance on the scene. Would you know what to do?
CSUN CERT Reporting Guidelines
If on Campus:
Fulfill duties as a floor marshal or other department representative.
Check on family members and/or notify them that you are OK.
Report to the grass area south of the bookstore complex with whatever gear you have supplied to you (hard hat, vest, whistle, etc.)
A designated leader of the EOC CERT Volunteer Team will meet you there to deploy further instructions.
If no one arrives to lead the team within 30 minutes, contact campus police at (818) 677-2111 and alert them that there are "X" number of trained CERT members awaiting deployment.
If Off-Campus:
Take care of your family situation first.
If you can safely arrive on campus, report to the grass area south of the bookstore complex with whatever gear you have gathered.
If no one arrives at the site:
Contact a CERT Volunteer leader via cell phone if possible, or
Contact campus police if possible, or
Find a field incident command post and let them know you are a trained CERT member reporting for duty.
