The Bicycle Registration Program is a Free Service available to all CSUN Students, Faculty and Staff.
What if I have an expensive bicycle and I don't want to put a sticker on it?
If your bicycle is an expensive model, you should want to do all that you can to protect it or improve your chances of recovering it if it is stolen. The "reflectorized" sticker is relatively small and should not detract from the aesthetic appearance of your bicycle.
How much will this registration cost me?
This is a FREE service of the Department of Police Services at Cal State University, Northridge.
Who can register a bicycle in this program?
This program is provided for all CSUN students, faculty and staff.
What guarantees will I receive for doing this?
There is no guarantee that you won't be a victim of bicycle theft. However, having your bicycle registered does improve the chances that your bicycle will be returned to you in the event that it is stolen and recovered.
What if my bike is stolen and recovered outside of the CSUN area?
Your label will identify the bicycle as being registered through the California State University, Northridge Department of Police Services and there will be a phone number the agencies can use to contact our department. Our name recognition with other law enforcement agencies improves the chances that they will contact us. We may not be able to satisfy every situation with the registration program, but we WILL certainly exhaust the database information you supply in order to contact you should another law enforcement agency recover your bicycle and alert us of the recovery.
How long will my bicycle be registered before I have to renew my registration?
Your bicycle will be registered with us for an 8-year period. After 8 years, your registration will be cancelled unless you renew it.
What if my contact information changes, how can I update my information once I provide it?
Your sticker will have an ID number on it. That will be your bicycle identification number for the life of that registration. Reference this number in all your correspondence with us. You should email changes to us directly from our website. this only reflects changes to your contact information. Should you acquire a different or new bicycle, just register it using the same method. An email to us would also be neccessary to remove from the list any bicycle that you previously registered that you now no longer own.
