Parking Enforcement & Traffic Safety:

PARKING ENFORCEMENT:

Available and safe parking is a concern on all school campuses. It is no less a concern here at California State University, Northridge.

In order to maintain safe campous parking areas, the University uses a user fee system. That is, if you park on campus you help pay for parking security and maintenance through the purchase of a parking permit. This user fee is required at all hours of every day. The University does not turn off theparking lot lights or cut back on campus police at night or during the weekends.

For those few people that do not want to contribute their fair share toward the security and maintenance of the parking lots, the University Parking Enforcement Officers issue parking citations.

University Parking Enforcement Officers have the same duties and responsibilities as parking enforcement officers in other jurisdictions. They walk through the parking lots checking for vehiclesparked illegally and issue parking citations when appropriate. Citations are issued for failing to visibly display a valid parking permit, no parking zones, time limit zones, etc.

Additionally, Parking Enforcement Officers handle many public assists similar to what a Freeway Patrol Service might handle. These other duties include assisting people with a battery jump start or retrieving keys locked in a vehicle. University Parking Enforcement Officers also help people who have lost their vehicle in the more than 12,000 parking spaces spread out among three parking structures and more that fifteen surface parking areas. University Parking Officers also assist with traffic control on and around the University during special events and heavy traffic days.

AMBER LIGHT PATROL

One of the services provided by our Parking Enforcement Officers is the Amber Light Patrol. We know our parking areas are very large and they seem even larger after dark. In order to help persons parking in the campus parkin g lots, we have implimented the Amber Light Patrol.

The Amber Light Patrol is a safety service our Parking enforcement Officers provide by driving through the parking areas with their emergency warning lights turned on. This allows members of the community an opportunity to flag down a Parking Enforcement Officer. If you need a police officer, have a question, or would just like to be escorted to your vehicle, we can be easily identified and contacted.

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

Minor traffic violations may seem trivial, but statistically, they are a major cause of death, injury, and property destruction in the United States. The University campus is no exception.

The University has several Motorcycle Traffic Enforcement Officers who, alomg with their other police duties, specialize in traffic enforcement and collision investigations. Our Motorcycle Traffic Enforcement Officers are specially trained in RADAR and LIDAR speed enforcement, Driving Under the Influence (DUI) investigations, Traffic Control, and advanced traffic collision investigations.
