Rideshare Program for Employees:

Faculty and Staff of California State University, Northridge may be eligible to participate in the following Transportation Programs.

There are three incentives included in the “Rideshare Program For Employees.” They are:

PUBLIC TRANSIT PROGRAM:
The campus is served by the Metro bus, and the Metrolink train system. Take the bus, rail, or train to campus and receive a discount of 60% off the cost of your transit pass or multi-use tickets. Eligible employees must first register to participate in this program. Fare media must be purchased on campus. Total monthly discount shall not exceed $100 per month. Employees are limited to a single, discounted purchase transaction per monthly selling period. You must first register with the Transportation Program to receive the discount.
VANPOOL PROGRAM:
Vanpooling is available for employees who meet the starting locations and work hours of an existing CSUN vanpool; or who meet the criteria for starting a vanpool group. There is a registration process. Call the Transportation Program at Ext. 3946 for details. Vanpool program participants pay a monthly cost to participate. That cost ranges from $78 to $92 per month and is affected by whether or not a person is a vanpool passenger or a driver who meets the minimum monthly driving requirement.
GUARANTEED EMERGENCY RIDE PROGRAM:
The Guaranteed Emergency Ride program is a basic need for any program participant. If on a workday, a registered employee who used an alternative commute mode (i.e., Vanpool or public transit) to get to work that day has a sudden, off-campus emergency and needs to leave to respond to that emergency, or there is sudden on-campus emergency that requires the employee to stay late, there is a free, 1-way ride that can be used to help the employee get back to his/her starting point (or home). This way, program participants are not stranded if something comes up.
WHO'S ELIGIBLE?
1. State full-time and part-time employees assigned to work on campus and eligible to accrue benefits through their employment on campus;
2. Non-state employees working (1) on the CSUN campus, (2) during the current semester, (3) whose employment is set through a commercial vendor (i.e., food services provider, bookstore, etc.) that is currently affiliated or recognized as being currently affiliated with Cal State Northridge. Applicants may be required to provide additional written documentation of their employment status before enrollment in this program.

Email astrid.logan@csun.edu or call Ext. 3946 for details or to register. Only original registration applications supplied by the Transportation Office are acceptable.

The following list includes commute alternatives for which there are currently no incentives, but employees may participate on a voluntary basis to help clean the air, reduce pollution, alleviate traffic congestion or increase their overall environmental stewardship.

CARPOOLING: One or more days per week, try sharing the ride with someone else. There is a limited number of parking spaces in faculty lots that have designated as “carpool” parking spaces. Not only will you contribute to the reduction of traffic congestion, but you will save on the number of miles you put on your own personal vehicle if you are in a position of switching the driving responsibilities and vehicles.
BICYCLING OR WALKING: Employees who live close to campus may take advantage of these options. Walking and biking are commute methods that are not only good for the air, but good for the heart.
COMPRESSED WORKWEEK: Lower the number of days spent commuting to the campus each week or every other week by adjusting your schedule to a 4/40 or 9/80 workweek schedule. You must obtain prior approval from your department before starting a compressed workweek schedule.
TELECOMMUTING: Work from home one or more days per week. Prior approval from your department/office is needed before starting a telecommute option.
There is no registration process for any of the 4 elements listed above as there is no incentive being offered for these programs.
