Emergency Hire Parameters

The University may hire people on an emergency basis to cover short-term leaves of absence, vacations, or a vacancy. Emergency Hires can also be necessary to handle increased workload or special projects.

Up to 180 calendar days.  Generally the initial appointment will be for 120 days and then the appointment may be extended for another 60 days without a break in service.

Up to 90 calendar days, however, collective bargaining agreement requires posting in the appropriate department.

This process should be completed at least one week prior to the requested effective date.

A formal recruiting process should be initiated on-line in Recruiting Solutions if the emergency hire position duties are anticipated to be long-term temporary and/or more than the initial 120 day Emergency Hire appointment.
