Spring Workshops

Spring is a busy time for everyone, and the Benefits team has put together a series of workshops on the following topics (click here for full descriptions):

Update on Same-sex Marriages and Benefits Eligibility

Proposition 8 was passed on November 4, 2008, eliminating same-sex marriage in the State of California. As a result, the CSU is no longer able to provide spousal benefits for same-sex marriages that occur after November 4, 2008. However, same-sex marriages that occurred from June 16, 2008 through November 4, 2008 (inclusively) continue to be eligible for medical, dental and vision benefits. If married during that time and you are enrolled in the Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) plan, you may continue to claim medical expenses for your eligible spouse under Internal Revenue Code Section 152. For more information, refer to http://www.irs.gov/irb/2008-02_IRB/ar14.html or consult your tax advisor.

This change has no effect on same-sex partners under domestic partnership with the Secretary of State. For more information, see http://www.sos.ca.gov/dpregistry/.

Lunchtime Learning Sessions

Lunchtime Learning Sessions are both educational and experiential. They are informal and informative; part lecture and part discussion… and they are always confidential. They are one of many opportunities now available to CSUN faculty and staff through the new Employee Assistance Program.

Lunchtime Learning Sessions are developed with you in mind. Our goal is to provide a supportive and informational service that meets your needs, not only as an employee, but as an individual, parent, child, spouse, partner, family member… etc. Our sessions are a unique series of employee-focused programs aimed at developing, enriching and sustaining a total sense of wellbeing.  Most Lunchtime Learning Sessions will reflect topics relating to personal growth, wellness and life challenges.

Lunchtime Learning Sessions are generally 50 minutes long. They start promptly at 12:00 noon and end 5 to 10 minutes before 1:00 p.m. As the name suggests, we encourage you to bring your lunch and enjoy it while attending the session.

Recruitment Services

Recruiting Solutions

Recruiting Solutions, an on-line requisition and application system, was implemented in August, 2008 with five departments participating as part of the pilot group.  These departments – College of Health and Human Development; College of Social and Behavioral Science; Human Resources; Information Technology; and Physical Plant Management have been very instrumental in enhancing the system to be more user-friendly and beneficial to the campus.  We want to thank Renate Wigfall, Pamela Simon, Ben Quillian and Joan O’Brien and their staff for their participation and input.

Human Resources is now working to roll out Recruiting Solutions to all campus departments this fiscal year.  We will be conducting several educational sessions as well as hands on training sessions in the upcoming months.  We will be contacting each college/department to invite them to these sessions.  We look forward to working with you in making this a smooth transition.  Please contact Mika Williamson, Manager, Recruitment Services and Compensation at x3817 if you have any questions.

News and Reminders

Sign-in Compliance/I-9

The University is required to comply with the federal Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA), by verifying the work authorization status of every prospective employee.  We ask for your assistance by ensuring all new employees (staff, faculty and students) are directed to the Office of Human Resources to complete the sign in process on or before their first day of employment.  Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States will be required to complete the I-9 form.  Please consult the list of acceptable documents provided on the New Employee Sign In form.
