LEFT ARROW  Position Description Form Revision
We have revised the Position Description Form (OHRS 10-09). The form will now include information needed for Information Technology positions when relevant. As a result, the IT Position Analysis/Description Questionnaire Form has been eliminated.
LEFT ARROW Position Classification and Review Process
The above titled document has been added to the Compensation and Employment website (http://www-admn.csun.edu/hrs/comp/posclassification.doc) and provides, in question and answer format, information designed to cover what position classification is and how the process works. This is a reference tool that is beneficial to managers, supervisors, and staff. Please contact Compensation and Employment at extension 2101 with any questions you may have.
Vacation and sick leave balances will be available in "real time".
Catastrophic leave hours received and donated will be displayed.
Service hours accumulators will be available for all leave eligible employees paid o an hourly basis.
Employees on alternate schedules will be able to view plus/minus hours, and the status of additional days off (ADO)*.
The system will now audit Compensatory Time validation.

LEFT ARROW  Performance Management
Human Resources just completed a review of the number of people who did not receive formal feedback on their performance in the last twelve months. That number was suprisingly large. Supervisors are reminded that it is university policy that employees receive formal feedback at least once per year. This process is a great way to mentor, coach, develop, recognize, reinforce, and modify behavior.

If you need assistance with the process, please call John Daly, Director for Employee Relations, at extension 6556; Susan Krall, HR Manager, at extension 2101; or Mika Williamson, HR Manager, at extension 2101.

LEFT ARROW  Benefits Administration
The 2004 California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) Annual Member Statement will be mailed to your home addresses during the month of November. These statements will include your total CalPERS account balances for contributions and service credit as of June 30, 2004. The statement will be mailed on a staged schedule based on your home Zip Code.

If you have not received your Annual Member Statement by the middle of December, you should contact CalPERS at (888) 225-7377. You may register and view your annual statement on-line by visiting http://www.calpers.ca.gov/.
LEFT ARROW  MPP Job Offer Reminder
We have received questions recently related to whether the department hiring authority can extend job offers for MPP positions. The hiring department does have the option of extending MPP job offers. The Office of Human Resources asks for the following prior to making the offer:
Salary recommendation for the selected candidate must be discussed with and/or reviewed by the Office of Human Resources.
Determine who (hiring department or Office of Human Resources) reviews and discusses the benefits related to the appointment.
If the department makes the offer but wants the Office of Human Resources to follow up with benefits-related information to the candidate, please inform the designated Compensation and Employment Manager that the offer has been extended and the Office of Human Resources can proceed with contacting the candidate to discuss benefits.
More detailed information about the selection process for MPP appointments can be found on the Screening and Referral of Resumes memo that accompanies the referred resume/application materials to the hiring authority.

W-2s will be issued in January by the State Controller's Office and mailed to addresses as listed in HRIS/Payroll records as of November 19th.

If your mailing address has changed this year, please update HR/Payroll online through SOLAR Self Service (access through the web portal http://www.csun.edu/portal). Instructions for access and use of the self service portal can be found at:
http://www-admn.csun.edu/hrs/selfsvcref.pdf.

You may also fill out a form in person by November 19th in the Office of Human Resources at University Hall, Room 165.
LEFT ARROW  Maximum Vacation Balance Cap
To avoid loss of vacation credits, your vacation balance as of January 1, 2005 must be at or below your maximum carryover per your applicable bargaining/administrative unit agreement. For most employees, leave balances are available online through SOLAR Self Service (http://www.csun.edu/portal). Those who do not have access to a computer should contact their department Timekeeper. Remember to consider your vacation accruals for October, November, and December when calculating the number of hours you must use before January 1st.

For details concerning the calculation of your Maximum Carryover Hours, please refer to http://www-admn.csun.edu/hrs/benefits/CarryOver.pdf.

Special note for faculty in the California Faculty Association (R03): After one (1) full year of employment, a California Faculty Association (R03) employee who accrues vacation (12-month appointments) shall take at least 40 hours of vacation each calendar year. Any part of the 40 hours not taken during the calendar year shall be forfeited by January of the subsequent year (Article 34.7).
