CalPERS Long-Term Care Program
CalPERS Long-Term Care (LTC) Program opened for new applications in December 2013. You no longer need to be a CalPERS member to apply. This will be the first time the LTC Program has been available to new applicants since 2008, and the first time the application period will be continuous, without an application closing date.
The program has also expanded eligibility to adult children. The LTC Program was previously available only to (CalPERS members’) spouses, siblings, parents and parents-in-law.

Covered California and the Affordable Care Act
October 1st marked the launch of Covered California, the California insurance exchange created as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Covered California is available for individuals that are not eligible for health insurance through their employer or don't have access to health insurance. Covered California has a menu of affordable health insurance options for individuals to choose from.
Looking ahead, ACA requires all individuals to have health insurance effective January 1, 2014. In addition, all health plans must comply with ACA guidelines that prohibit individuals to be denied coverage due to having a pre-existing health condition and waiting periods for insurance may not exceed 90 days. Employers will be required to offer affordable coverage to all employees working an average of 30 hours per week and implement specific IRS reporting requirements effective January 2015.
