SALARY/TIMEBASE: $3181-4774 mo./full-time (Hiring Range: up to $3853 mo.)
GENERAL INFORMATION : Temporary - renewable, end date to be determined
Duties:
Under supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Marketing & Communications, independently produces a variety of standard, straightforward promotional communication and marketing materials using traditional and emerging tools to meet the diverse communication needs of the university.  Works under general supervision with artistic direction provided for consistency.  Uses a basic level of creativity and ingenuity to develop graphic designs based on stated goals and concepts.  Consults with faculty and staff periodically to ensure communication objects are achieved.  Occasionally serves as liaison to various printing and design vendors.  Focus is on own work assignments but may provide lead work direction to student assistants.  Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field.  Additional experience in graphic design background which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities required may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.   
Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the principles of artistic and graphic design and illustration; applicable graphic, design, and desktop publishing software packages; design and electronic prepress processes used in the production of basic publications.  Basic knowledge of copyright laws applicable to design work and creative properties.  General knowledge of the principles of print design, typeface, color, layout, and production techniques; systems, techniques, and processes used in web site design, photography, printmaking, and other applicable media.  Demonstrated understanding of various communication vehicles and methods and possession of strong written/verbal communication skills.  Ability and specialized skills to: understand communication goals; scan as well as convert files; design, layout, and prepare finished artwork to develop a visual product; effectively use graphic, design, and desktop publishing software to create visual material; prepare camera-ready materials; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
