The Position of Director of Development:

University Advancement is seeking two results-oriented individuals with documented successful fund-raising experience, one to serve as Director of Development for the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication and one to serve in this capacity for the College of Health and Human Development.  The incumbent is a member of the University Advancement team, reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development and will work in consultation and close coordination with the Dean in priority areas within the college.

The Director of Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive fund development program aimed at identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors.  Supports college-based and special major gifts initiatives for the university.  Identifies, cultivates, qualifies, solicits and stewards individual prospects and donors for major gifts and multi-year pledges of $50K or greater.  Arranges frequent donor meetings and contact encounter for the Dean.  Prepares and submits an annual development plan with priority fundraising goals and supervises support staff in the performance of development work.  Writes and/or supervises the writing of proposals, supporting documents and other correspondence.  Conducts at least 150-200 personal visits with high level prospects and donors annually.  Works with volunteers and community members, helps coordinate cultivation events and conducts other activities as assigned.  As a member of the University Advancement team, the Director of Development is responsible for working in a collegial and supportive manner with other university and college-based development officers.  Significant travel may be required.

Qualifications:

Graduation from a four-year college or university.  Three or more years of progressively responsible professional fundraising experience in a university development program, non-profit organization, or equivalent experience.  Must possess general knowledge and background in fund development.  Demonstrated success in cultivation and closure of major gifts and or high-end annual gifts from individuals and/or corporations.  Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.  Knowledge of and experience with campaign strategies and volunteer staffing desirable.  Ability to: identify, cultivate, and solicit potential donors and work effectively and cooperatively with the deans and department personnel, volunteers and alumni, campus administrators, and corporate business executives.  Must possess superior interpersonal skills, and have the demonstrated ability to develop effective promotional materials.  Must be self-motivated and organized.  Knowledge of community service and philanthropic organizations highly desirable.
