| Duties: | |
Under general supervision, operates a state vehicle to pick up and transport campus community to various points within the campus area and within a five (5) mile radius of campus; provides necessary assistance in boarding and de-boarding; and memorizes and documents route pick-up and drop-off points. Performs a complete pre-pull-out inspection of assigned vehicle; conducts safety checks of equipment and provides results of such checks to supervisor when adjustments or repairs are necessary; refers to and implements route maps, time schedules, and instructions for route trips; and operates all equipment associated with operation of the vehicle and the safety and security of passengers. Transports special needs passengers on designated vehicles; adheres to schedule and route; assists passengers requiring assistance on boarding, riding, and alighting in a safe manner; receives and transmits two-way radio messages involving accidents, emergencies, criminal activity, or any other situation related to university business; and reports hazardous or dangerous conditions along route, at passenger loading and unloading points. Writes reports and completes forms; adheres to safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure well-being of the campus community; maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all university safety rules, policies, and procedures; and performs other duties as assigned. |

| Qualifications: | |
| Equivalent to one year of full-time, paid truck driving, automotive equipment operation, or bus driving experience, including operation of heavy trucks of three axles or more, large loaders, forklifts, or other equipment requiring a Class B license, OR equivalent to one year of full-time, paid or regularly assigned driving experience, preferably involving bus driving or chauffeuring, or driving a car pool or other experience driving passenger carrying vehicles requiring a Class B license. Possess excellent customer relation skills. | |
| Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of the rules of safe driving and provisions of the State of California Vehicle Code pertaining to operation of vehicles described in the appropriate class; and State of California General Industrial Safety orders related to the assigned tasks of the class, particularly those related to vehicle and equipment operation. Ability and specialized skills to: operate assigned equipment safely; recognize safety hazards and follow practices and laws to ensure safety; follow manuals and guidelines pertaining to operation of State vehicles; load and unload vehicles correctly and safely; follow oral and written instructions; read and write at a level appropriate to duties of the position; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; service and make routine repairs of equipment operated; and do manual labor as required by the duties of the position. Possession of a Class B California driver’s license with passenger endorsement, the approved medical certificate, and a demonstrated good driving record. |
