SALARY/TIMEBASE: $2259.50-4070 mo./part-time
Duties:

Under general supervision, facilitates the integration of deaf/hard-of-hearing professionals/staff members in the classroom and other settings by interpreting the spoken or signed communication, and employs voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretation to assist deaf professionals and their colleagues to participate fully in academic and related functions. Other assignments may involve the following: technical or specialized subject matter, concepts, theory, and vocabulary. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Equivalent of 1,200 hours of paid interpreting experience and equivalent to some administrative experience in general office work.  Candidate for or in possession of National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), preferably CSC, CI or National Association for the Deaf (NAD) Level IV certification.  Equivalent to graduation with an Associate’s degree/60 units or graduation from a certified Interpreter Training Program.  Completion of course in Code of Ethics. 
Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of American Sign Language and English vocabulary, terminology, and basic information in a variety of subjects.  Knowledge of: the deaf community and the academic higher education system; special communication needs of deaf persons; National Registry of Interpreters Code of Ethics; platform interpreting techniques; and special vocabulary and techniques used in interpreting professional subject matter.  General knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices.  Ability and specialized skills to: interpret, transliterate, and adapt skills to communicate unique terminology and languages; adapt interpreting and transliterating skills to an academic setting; interpret difficult and complex words, thoughts, and feelings; be accurate, thorough, and  comprehensive in providing services; serve a group as well as an individual; sustain service for an extended number of hours; answer routine questions and explain procedures and policies to students, the public, and other campus employees; establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students, faculty, and others; and use computers and word processing programs.  Exceptional voicing skills required for interaction with management and the public.
