Parking Enforcement Officer (2 positions)

DEPARTMENT: Public Safety/Parking & Transportation
SALARY/TIMEBASE: $2456-3682 mo./full-time
GENERAL INFORMATION: Hours: 40 hrs/wk; Vary, Rotating Shifts
Duties:
Under general supervision, patrols assigned parking facilities and other campus areas; checks vehicles for permits and legal parking; issues parking citations or warnings; immobilizes or tows vehicles; observes and reports unusual incidents (i.e., vandalism, malicious mischief, or auto burglary); delivers backup relief for Community Service Information Booth as needed; provides traffic control and directions at critical locations and/or special event activities.  Furnishes general information and campus directions to the public; summons assistance for campus personnel and visitors; stands by until assistance arrives; assists motorists with lockouts and jumpstarts; permit dispenser and parking meter pick up and maintenance; and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent AND three months of full-time, related experience that has provided the applicant with knowledge and abilities listed.  California Driver License and State Defensive Driver Training Certificate are required.
Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:
Ability and specialized skills to: understand and carry out oral and written instructions; enforce parking regulations; use parking-related equipment and automated systems; relate to faculty, staff, students, and general public in a tactful and effective manner; observe and act to resolve parking conditions that could potentially cause problems; observe and recall details and incidents; read, write, and perform arithmetic computations at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.  Willingness to work in varied weather conditions.
