GENERAL INFORMATION:

Temporary – renewable, end date to be determined; Hours: varied schedule

Duties:

Under general supervision, supervises the work of rape crisis advocates; assists in coordination and delivery of training program; supervises the hotline; and assists office staff.  Counsels clients from numerous Valley Trauma Centers; leads counseling and support groups; attends meetings; and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university in psychology or a job-related field, and six months specialized, full-time experience as rape crisis advocate, during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities listed.  California State certification as a rape crisis advocate, California State registered intern in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, Licensed Social Worker, or Clinical Psychologist preferred.  Experience should give evidence of competence and indicate potential for further growth. 
Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of: principles, practices, and trends of the counseling field; the etiology, treatment, and specific counseling techniques used in treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder; advocacy issues related to treatment of victims of crime; community resources relating to client needs; and feminist philosophy and women’s issues.  Ability and specialized skills to: analyze complex situations and adopt effective courses of action; advise students and volunteers; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; motivate others, lead discussions, and generate new ideas; speak effectively; carry out complex assignments with detailed instructions; relate well with women and persons of varying economic levels, cultures, ethnicity, and lifestyles; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations.
