| Duties: | |
| Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical support services within his/her scope of practice, as defined by the Medical Board of California. Performs patient check-in at lab reception; processes Provider lab orders; draws blood by skin puncture or venipuncture to provide samples for clinical analysis and testing; prepares specimens for transport and disposition; assists with informing patients of laboratory tests; keeps current with the field and maintains competencies relative to the scope of practice with approved Continuing Education units. Performs other duties as assigned. | |
| Qualifications: | |
| Equivalent to one year of full-time, increasingly responsible phlebotomy experience. Possession of a current State of California Phlebotomy License. High school diploma or equivalent is required. The selected candidate must pass a fingerprint clearance. | |
| Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities: | |
| Thorough knowledge of phlebotomy principles and practices. Ability and specialized skills to: deliver phlebotomy services to patients as per California standards; quickly learn related laboratory procedures; handle equipment required for laboratory services in a Student Health Center; exercise correct judgment within the areas of assigned responsibility; follow detailed oral and written instructions; understand basic phlebotomy terminology; establish cooperative relationships with patients, students, physicians, and co-workers. Operate computers and software. Experience with electronic health record, scheduling, and Laboratory Information System software such as Pyramed and Orchard Harvest preferred. | |
