Review the below material carefully for eligibility, course limitations, and fee information. The CSU Employee Fee Waiver and Reduction Program allows eligible California State University (CSU) state employees or their eligible dependent to participate in the instructional program of any CSU campus at a significantly reduced rate. CSU Fee Waiver & Reduction Program eligibility is determined by the campus of employment. However, the campus of enrollment determines fees, deadlines, etc. Admittance in this program does not gaurentee admittance into the University of your choice. Fee waiver applies to CSU general fund courses only. Courses in self-supported programs, such as Extended Learning, may not be taken through this program. If you are enrolling as a new fee waiver participant, the university application fee of $55 will be waived. You will be responsible for lab fees and the cost of additional units/courses should you decide to enroll in more units/courses than are allowed through this program. Additionally, fees must be paid according to deadlines set by Admissions and Records and Cash Services. Your enrollment with the University may be canceled if fees are not paid by required deadlines. Fee Waiver forms must be completed and submitted by the appropriate deadline. To access the Fee Waiver application click the Enrollment Forms and Deadlines link above, scroll down to the appropriate term and click on the corrisponding CSU Employee Fee Waiver and Reduction Application. This link is different for each term and should be accessed and completed each time you wish to use this benefit. Your request will be electronically submitted to our office and you will be redirected to this Web page once you have clicked "Done" at the end of the application process. Fee Waiver requests must be completed online by the appropriate deadline. An e-mail indicating receipt of request will be sent to all participants one week after each deadline. If you do not receive an e-mail, please follow up with Fee Waiver to verify your request was received. Provisions of the CSU Employee Fee Waiver and Reduction Program are governed by the language in Collective Bargaining Agreements or, for non-represented employees, Executive Order 712. Provisions may change as a result of collective bargaining negotiations, which may affect your current participation in the program. Employees on authorized leaves of absence who are otherwise eligible as indicated above and employees of the Chancellor's Office or other CSU campuses who have written authorization from their employer may also participate. Employees on authorized leaves of absence should contact the Office of Human Resources for details on enrollment limitations. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

All eligible represented and non-represented employees may enroll in a maximum of two courses or six units per semester, whichever is greater. Classes may be taken for a grade or a credit/no credit but may not be taken for audit. Courses taken in this program must be work-related or part of an approved Career Development Plan. Employees may enroll in more units/courses by paying any difference in fees, which will be at the regular rate. These additional units/courses are not considered part of the Employee Fee Waiver and Reduction Program and shall not be taken on state time. Student services, including the Student Health Center, are not provided to employees under this program; therefore, employees participating in this program should use their employee ID card in lieu of buying student ID cards. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Work Related Courses: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| These courses are taken to improve the skills and/or knowledge of employees in the performance of their current job or in anticipation of changes in that job. If you take only work-related courses (non-matriculated), Admissions and Records will consider you a "transitory" student for that particular semester. You will not be required to complete a CSU application or provide transcripts of either high school or previous college records. Transitory fee waiver students are not formally admitted to CSUN. Should a transitory student skip one semester, he/she must notify Human Resource Services if there is an intent to enroll in classes for the next semester. This is to ensure that the student will receive registration materials for that semester. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Career Development Courses: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| These courses must be identified in a Career Development Plan developed by the employee with the assistance of an academic advisor and filed with the Office of Human Resource Services. A Career Development Plan is designed to prepare the employee for higher-level positions or an occupational change within the California State University. All matriculated students must file a Career Development Plan with the Office of Human Resources. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| One fee waiver course each semester may be requested by the employee and approved by the appropriate administrator for release time. Release time is excused time to attend a course during the employee's working hours. It may be granted provided the course is job-related or part of an approved Career Development Plan and the operational needs of the department are met, as determined by the appropriate administrator. If your application indicates a "yes" to take class through release time, your supervisor will need to send an email to feewaiver@csun.edu authorizing your request to take a class during work hours. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Dependent Enrollment Limitations
and Fee Structure: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Eligible employees may transfer their fee waiver benefit to a spouse, registered domestic partner, or dependent child. Effective January 1, 2002, MPP and Confidential employees who are eligible for the CSU fee waiver program may transfer their existing fee waiver benefit entitlement to a spouse, domestic partner, or dependent child. A dependent child is defined in the same manner as the term is used for other CSU benefit programs, namely (1) your child or stepchild under the age 23 and who has never been married; (2) a child living with you in a parent-child relationship who is economically dependent upon you, under the age 23, and who has never been married; or (3) your child or stepchild, age 23 or above, who is incapable of self-support due to a disability which existed prior to age 23. Fee waiver eligibility for domestic partners is contingent upon the employee filing a Declaration of Domestic Partnership Form with the California Secretary of State. Only one dependent may benefit from the transfer regardless of whether that person is using the full entitlement of two (2) courses or six (6) units. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The spouse, registered domestic partner, or dependent child must be matriculated towards a degree or the attainment of a teaching credential at the CSU campus of attendance and may only take a maximum of two courses or six units per semester, whichever is greater. If both parents are eligible employees, then two dependent children may each benefit. It is also possible for both parents to transfer their benefits to one child, allowing the child to enroll in 4 courses or 12 units on a fee waiver basis. Courses taken on a fee waiver basis must be for credit toward completion of that degree or teaching credential. Dependents may enroll in additional units/courses by paying any difference in fees, which will be at the regular rate. Normal academic standards must be maintained in order to continue participating in the fee waiver program. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
