Under general supervision, provides sanitation services for the Facility Services area in support of the general upkeep and maintenance of the University facilities.  Provides support for campus setups and events and periodic project work; cleans chalkboards and other fixtures; dusts and cleans windows, sills, blinds, and furniture; empties, cleans, and replaces all trash receptacles with plastic liners; dust mops/sweeps and damp mops floors; strips and waxes floors; and cleans and vacuums carpeted areas.  Cleans and disinfects shower stalls, commodes, urinals, and sinks; washes all walls, doors, and stationary fixtures; restocks tissue, hand towels, soap, and sanitary dispensers; and wet mops entry floor areas.  Cleans entrances, corridors, lobbies, stairs, and elevators.  Operates appropriate hand/powered custodial equipment and tools.  Cleans and safely puts away equipment at the end of each day’s use.  May drive gas and electric carts and state vehicles; participates in the PPM Safety program; provides excellent customer service to faculty, staff and students; and performs other duties as assigned.  May be assigned to work with a small crew to perform team cleaning in assigned areas throughout the campus.

Ability and specialized skills to: follow simple oral and written directions; use and care of janitorial supplies and equipment; read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; observe and use safe working conditions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and students.  Valid California driver’s license.  Desirable qualifications include experience working in an educational environment or large institution; experience in stripping and waxing floors and carpet cleaning; and working with cleaning chemicals and equipment.
