GENERAL INFORMATION:

Duties:
Under general supervision, serves disabled persons by making written records of oral lectures, presentations, events, exhibits, or physical conditions which cannot be recorded by those served. Prepares accurate, detailed, handwritten, or typewritten summaries from lectures, or other instructional situations; copies written materials from chalkboards; takes descriptive notes of field trips; takes comprehensive notes of written materials; prepares complete summaries identifying main points, or arranges materials in outline form; and communicates with others in written form. Provides typewritten or clear handwritten materials; and for some assignments, the person served may describe or dictate the materials to be prepared, such as reports, term papers, correspondence, graphs, charts, or diagrams.
Qualifications:
Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to write, spell, and express ideas and concepts using college-level English vocabulary. Training in journalism or English composition or college-level lecture notetaking, study, and testing methods and practices.
Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to: follow instructions; listen, read, and outline for meaning, main points, concepts, terms, and principles; prepare a complete written account of oral presentations, lectures, or printed materials; spell, outline, and summarize; and describe events, objects, and activities in writing.
