Academic Field Trip Requirements

• AUTHORIZED PARTICIPANT OF A CSUN FIELD TRIP:

1. Faculty
2. Staff (Academic)
3. Approved volunteers (registered with Human Resource Services)
4. Enrolled students
5. Enrolled College of Extended Learning students

• AUTHORIZED DRIVERS FOR A CSUN FIELD TRIP:

1. Faculty
2. Staff (Academic)
3. Enrolled students, graduate, or teaching assistants whose duties are directly related
to the class and/or field trip.
4. Approved volunteers (registered with Human Resource Services).

• REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL VEHICLE DRIVERS:

1. A valid California driver's license.

2. A current Defensive Driver Training Certificate.

3. Proof of vehicle insurance for the minimum amount prescribed by law.

4. If an employee is driving a private vehicle, a completed Authorization to Use Privately
Owned Vehicle on State Business Form STD 261 is to be submitted to the Department
Chair.

5. If a student is driving a private vehicle, a completed Student Authorization to Operate
Privately Owned Vehicle for any University - Affiliated Program or Trip form is to be
submitted to the instructor in charge of the program or trip.

6. Students MAY NOT drive State vehicles unless they are employed by the State of
California.

Please note that personal liability insurance is the primary coverage when driving a privately owned vehicle.
