Emergency Procedures: Civil Disturbance/Demonstrations:

Most campus demonstrations will be peaceful and everyone should attempt to carry on with business as normally as possible. Avoid provoking or obstructing demonstrators. Should a disturbance occur, call the Police Department (911). To avoid confrontation, use a telephone located away from the disturbance if possible.

• A threatening disturbance should be reported immediately to the Police Department    (911). The following action should also be taken:

     1. Alert all employees in the area of the situation.

     2. Lock all doors, secure all files, documents and equipment.

     3. When ordered by a University Police Officer, or area management, cease          operations and evacuate.

     4. Stand by for further instructions.

• The Police Department will assess the situation and confer the appropriate area head if    available and if time permits. Participants who refuse to disperse will be arrested if any    laws have been violated.

• If a class or lecture is disrupted, call the Police Department (ext. 2111 or 911).
