Emergency Procedures: Medical and First Aid Instruction:

• If a serious injury or illness occurs on campus, immediately call the Police Department    (911). Give your name, describe the nature and severity of the medical problem, and    the campus location of the victim.

ALL injuries must be immediately reported to Supervisors or Instructors.

• A Supervisor's Accident Investigation Report (Form 620) must be completed and sent to    the EH&S and the Office of Human Resources immediately. For fatality or serious injury,   and call the EH&S Office (ext. 2401).

NOTE:THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS A DIRECT LINE TO THE PARAMEDICS AND    AMBULANCE AND CAN RENDER FIRST AID AND CPR THEMSELVES. DURING THE NORMAL    WORKING HOURS (8:00am-5:00pm) MONDAY - FRIDAY, A NURSE AND/OR DOCTOR FROM    THE KLOTZ STUDENT HEALTH CENTER WILL ALSO BE SUMMONED.

• In case of MINOR INJURY OR ILLNESS, the injured person should be sent or taken to   the Klotz Student Health Center ext. 3666 or 3692 (tty). Departments may also   purchase and maintain First Aid kits for their areas.

• In case of SERIOUS INJURY OR ILLNESS, trained personnel should quickly perform    the following steps:

    1. Keep victim still and comfortable. DO NOT MOVE VICTIM!

    2. Ask Victim, "Are you okay?" or "What is wrong?"

    3. Check victim's breathing and give artificial respiration if necessary.

    4. Control serious bleeding by applying direct pressure on the wound.

    5. Continue to assist the victim until help arrives.

    6. Look for Emergency Medical ID, question witnesses, and give all information to the        Paramedics and/or Police Department.

• All individuals are encouraged to obtain training in First Aid and CPR. Training can be    provided by the American Red Cross (818) 376-1742.
