More than twenty years ago a group of volunteers from the ranks of the University's fraternaties and athletic programs was utilized to augment the University's Police Department by providing the security services for the campus community. What was once a small compliment of students is now a community service organization within the department of Police Services, known as the Matador Patrol.
Over the years, the Community Service Assistant (CSA) Unit of the Department of Police Services has taken on additional responsibilities such as providing the University Park Apartments complex with safety patrols, assisting in special event staffing and participating in a safety watch in the Oviatt Library and Satellite Student Union facilities. The mission statement of the Matador Patrol organization is "to serve our academic community by providing night-time personal safety in an efficient and friendly manner."
Matador Patrol members wear easily recognizable uniforms that are red, white and black in color.
Don't be alarmed if you find a Matador Patrol member asking you if you'd like to be escorted to your next destination.
Matador Patrol members are students who are proactive, energetic, and have the best of intentions of ensuring CSUN maintains that reputation as a safe academic community.
