It is coming up on that time of year to complete annual reviews.
Performance evaluations are an essential component of effective performance management, formalizing the dialogue between a supervisor and staff member as a means to foster growth, acknowledge success and document areas of required improvement.
All employees should receive formal feedback through a performance evaluation at least once every 12 months to ensure clarity in the dialogue and provide formal documentation of progress.
Additionally, 1-year probationary employees should receive written performance feedback at 3, 6, and 11 months of service; and 2-year probationary employees should receive written performance feedback at 6, 12, 18, and 22 months of service.
Forms can be found at:
http://www-admn.csun.edu/ohrs/relations/performance.htm.
CSUEU and CSU have reached an agreement to extend the January 16, 2007 - June 30, 2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement until June 30, 2011.
There are no changes to the collective bargaining agreement. The CSU and CSUEU have agreed to form a system-wide Labor-Management Committee to "develop recommendation towards a long-term compensation strategy that meets the goals and objectives of both the CSUEU and the CSU."
CSUEU may request to reopen the Salary Article of the Collective Bargaining Agreement at anytime with thirty (30) days notice.
The extension notice and Side Letter of Agreement on the Labor Management Committee will be posted on the CSU website in the near future.

Thank you for supporting the 2008-2009 Talent Management and Professional Development programs. I sincerely hope that the array of workshops that were offered over the course of the academic year was both appealing and helpful to you. I look forward to seeing you at many of next year's sessions. Have a relaxing and rejuvenating summer.
The University may hire people on an emergency basis, without conducting a recruitment, to cover short-term leaves of absence, vacations, or a vacancy, without a formal recruitment process. Emergency Hires may also be necessary to support a temporary increase in workload or special projects.
Emergency hire appointments may be made to such classifications as Special Consultant, Casual Worker, or other staff classifications.
The request to appoint emergency hires through the state payroll is now processed through Recruiting Solutions (please see Recruiting Solutions User Guide).
If the prospective employee has been identified and has previously held a staff/faculty appointment with the university and an application is in their personnel file, they will not need to apply through Recruiting Solutions. However, if they have not been previously employed in this capacity, the applicant must apply to Job ID 1007/Emergency Hire-Campus Wide (continuous). The application is needed to assist in the review of their qualifications as well as for their personnel file. If you have not identified a candidate, please contact Recruitment Services at x2101 to review the emergency hire applicant pool.
If the Emergency Hire employee has not worked for the university within the past 18 months, please refer the new employee to HR on or before their start date, for completion of the New Hire Sign-In process.
